…with blogs and blogging in general. I used to dedicate time each week and write about whatever that was on my mind. Nowadays, I honestly don’t care about much anymore…at least politically speaking. And unless you’re a stalker of mine, the average reader of my blog probably doesn’t care much about my opinions either. This was originally supposed to be a political blog and if I was still motivated to blog about that stuff, I’d probably write about the protestors at the RNC, or how Micheal Moore is a huge asshole…but I’m sure everyone is pretty much tired of hearing about that stuff. For now, I’ll just watch from afar and maybe one of these days, that politcal bug will bite me once again and I’ll be chock-full of stuff to blog about about.

Until then, updates on here will be few and far between.

The Texas Primary is in three weeks. The problem is – I have no idea who I am going to vote for. This will be my first time voting, since I was underage during the last Presidential election. It stinks. I was hoping that my first time voting would be something special and I’d be voting for someone I feel would make this a better country. I’m actually debating whether I should even vote or not. Sure, I can always give my vote to some third-party candidate that has no chance of even winning, but I just don’t want to do that. I want “change”, but I don’t feel confident that any of the candidates that are running can bring the sort of change that I am looking for.

While watching some of the news coverage for the Primaries, I couldn’t help but notice how freakin’ predictable Americans really are. Women voting for Hillary because she’s a woman. African-Americans voting for Obama because he’s the same race as them, Evangelical Christians voting for Huckabee because of his religion etc, etc. People, in general, voting because they feel that “voting for [insert candidate's name] says a lot about them”

Most people in my position would find it easy to just vote for whoever they feel can relate to them the most. Since my skin tone is very similar to Obama’s, does that mean I will be voting for him? No. I admit, I can relate to him in several ways…more than I can with any of the other candidates. In addition to sharing the same skin tone and being biracial, we both speak “white”, we were both raised in the middle-class, our parents both separated when we were two years old… Heck, we both have had to struggle with the challenging task of integrating our two racial-halves and feeling “accepted” by others. Unfortunately, I don’t agree with some of his policies and we don’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues. I don’t want to give my vote to a candidate just because I share the same race, gender or even religion with them. I am undecided now and if I am still undecided 3 weeks from now, I am not going to vote. I want to be able to stand at that voting booth and choose the one person that I feel, with every fiber of my being, is the right person to lead this country.

[3:20am on 4 Feb 2008 Mon.] As I look over my Anatomy & Physiology notes for an upcoming test (it’s today, actually), I can’t help but laugh at my stubborn self for being such a procrastinator. I’m taking a break after hours of scrambling to finish partially written sentences while color-coding keywords with my two highlighters ( If you must know, pink means “important” and yellow means “Read it. Learn it. Know it.”). I know, I know – the syllabus clearly states the dates for each and every test. Plus, I knew this one was coming since we’ve covered so much material already. Now, I am here freaking out because I’d love to get some rest after a busy weekend instead of study.

It makes no sense. You stay up late trying to retain several chapters of information while consuming gallons of caffeine. At the same time, you’re not getting the rest that you need in order to be able to focus and actually remember whatever the hell you’re reading. Less sleep, less memory. The test comes along and I bomb the crap out of it. You’d think I’d learn my lesson by now. Eh, I’m such a hard-headed person. Me = still awake studying for a test, that I had an entire weekend to prepare for, instead of sleeping. The story of my life. Anyone have any good time-managing tips for me?

I was talking on the phone with my best friend, no more than an hour ago, until I told him that I had to go. I didn’t really have to go, but he said something that sort of pissed me off. He asked why I can’t handle pain well. I act like a baby every time I’m injured. I was shocked. Tell me one person that enjoys falling off of a 20+ foot wall (Which I have) or get stung by a bee in the mouth (has happened to me too)? Well, I am aware that there are freaks out there that enjoy that kind of stuff…not me!

He said that I over-exaggerate my pain whenever I am injured or sick. He said,” You’re a woman, you’re supposed to deal with pain better than men”. It’s true, I have to deal with an excruciating pain one day a month… That’s not enough for me, apparently.

I guess I’m mad because I hate that he’s right. I got the flu shot yesterday and my arm was fine all day. Today is a different story. My left arm feels really numb and uncomfortable. It feels like I have a rope tied around below my Deltoid and it’s not allowing blood to continue circulating through my arm properly. I can’t fall asleep because of it and I’ve already taken an Aleve. I’m trying really hard not to “act like a baby” or tell anyone, because it’s probably normal. Ugh, it is throbbing…I can feel it…ahhhhh.

I’m so not getting pregnant. Screw that.

I’m a music snob. There, I said it.

With that being said, I hate seeing some of my favorite unsigned indie bands become products of “mainstream” music. One band in particular has got me grinding my teeth whenever I hear their songs on a local top 40 station.

Sure, I know I should be happy for them. I mean, they’re rolling with the big boys and making the big bucks. BUT, whenever bands stop making music for the fans and start making music for the $$$, a large chunk of their fan-base goes off to find some other indie band worth their time and money. The band I’m referring to goes by the name “Gym Class Heroes“. I knew about these guys way before anyone else did. I was happy for them at first, but now that I’ve seen what they have become…well, let’s just say… I’m not so quick to go out and buy their merchandise anymore. Their new stuff just sounds so fabricated and corny. I mean, one of their singles for their latest album was “New Friend Request” and is basically a song about myspace. I have nothing against myspace (I’m proud to say I have a page… set to private), but seriously, you can’t get any more commercialized than that. There’s a lot of other bands that went from making good quality Indie stuff to making MTV-quality type of stuff (ie: Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco) . Oh, and Good lord, look at what MTV has become .

GCH’s earlier stuff was WAY better …that’s all I can say. I understand that bands evolve, but sometimes it’s not always for the best.

A couple of days ago, I was at Starbucks with Carolyn, an old High School buddy. We were catching up on stuff since we hardly ever have a chance to chat anymore. Between her 55 hour work weeks and my summer semester schedule, we barely have time to even take a breath… well maybe I do, but definitely not her. Anyways, the topic got on politics, and if you don’t know by now, I refuse to be a democrat as much as I refuse to be a Republican. I’m totally “middle of the road”, and i’m proud of it. She’s a conservative (thank God!) and for the last 2 years, i’ve been agreeing with conservatives a lot more than I have with liberals. I noticed that my views had gotten a lot more conservative around the time my brother went off to Iraq in 2005. I’m not going to say that it was because of the war, but that definitely played a huge part. It was mainly for the troops, and quite honestly, I’d give the shirt off of my back, symbolically speaking , for a Soldier just as quickly as I’d give it to a homeless Katrina Evacuee. It’s the goons in Washington D.C. that I have a problem with. I’ll get into that topic on another day though. Back to my story…

So, we are two 19 year olds that actually vote and care about the direction that our country is going. The topic stumbled onto the war in Iraq, and that’s when I heard the most despicable news I’ve ever heard in a long time. In Houston, at one of the main airports, fallen soldiers would travel on the commercial jets in order to get here from Iraq. The government had to discontinue using these airports as a means to transport the soldier’s because… well… There have been incidents where “protesters” would disrespect the coffins and throw trash, or whatever that they could, at the fallen soldier’s coffin. Carolyn brought this up because she was telling me about how she had to pick up a friend from a nearby private airport over the weekend. Well, now the fallen soldiers have to use private airports in order to get here without problems. The day that she went to pick up her friend, a fallen soldier was scheduled to arrive around the same time. She mentioned that there were tons and tons of protesters at the gate yelling and causing a scene. Of course, because of that, the place was heavily secured with law enforcement officers. She did see the family of the soldier and mentioned how hard it seemed for them to have to witness it at that moment. I mean, imagine going to see the arrival of a fallen loved one and having to deal with assholes yelling anti-troop nonsense? I wouldn’t be able to handle it. It just bugs me that people are willing to go out of their way, to come to a private airport outside of Houston, to pull this bullshit.

Why must people be so cruel? Soldiers are just doing their job,they are not calling the shots – the fools in Washington are. Most of them are serving in the military because they want to. They felt that they needed to serve their country at this moment in time, so who gives folks the right to disrespect their decision? It’s the President that these people should be mad at. What bothers me even more is how the media doesn’t even cover this stuff. Had I not heard about  it from someone that witnessed it, I probably would have not known that it had ever existed. The whole thing just gave me an awful stabbing pain in my stomach. I’ll just never understand some people.

Not that anyone really cares…

My blog used to be called “My Two Pennies” (if you look at the web address, you’ll see that) but someone, that I happen to know, pointed out that if you read it fast/like a lazy ass, it sounds like a lame title for a porno horribly translated into english from Japanese.

My Two Pennies – 1 “n” – the second “e” = well… you know the word.

Even though that sounds grammatically incorrect, dirty minded people will find a way to read that instead of the original title. So now it’s “My Two Cents”. Just ignore the website address. The reason I chose pennies instead of cents is b/c some oger of a blogger got to it first. Oh well.

So today I went to get my eyebrows waxed. See, much like pedicures and manicures, it’s a MUST to keep up w/ your “brows”. You can get away with not keeping up with your pedicures by not wearing sandals. You can get away with not getting manicures by clipping your own nails and painting them yourself. Unfortunately, you can’t get away with big eyebrows. There is no way to hide them.

I personally cannot stand having bushy eyebrows. Quite honestly,they drive me insane. With that being said, i’m spoiled and need them waxed as soon as they begin to get bushy. Everytime I go to the nail salon that I normally go to, I always have this fear that i’ll get the “newbie” and they’ll destroy my eyebrows. Well, i’ve been lucky …most of the time. Occasionally i’ll get the uneven eyebrows or the “transsexual wh0re” looking eyebrows. For the most part, I get pretty decent eyebrow waxing jobs whenever I get a certain person to do them. The lady that normally does mine wasn’t there today so I was stuck with this one lady that I have never seen before. I could tell that she couldn’t speak english very well, so I sort of kept making sure to say “leave this part thick” (while pointing at the thicker part), “a little thinner here with a point at the end” (while pointing at the other end of the eyebrow) and then specifically said “do not make too thin, leave it slighly thick and arched“. She kept saying “Thin then?” and i’d then repeat myself again. She knodded and I could’ve sworn that she said “oh ok, I get it” with a nice smile.

I knew, deep in my gut, that I was going to leave that place with one missing eyebrow or simply – some fugly looking ones. I sat back in the chair,took a deep breath and she did her thing. When she was done with the first one, I asked if it was thin. She said “um, no. No thin.” I guess I made her paranoid b/c she then moved me to the room w/ the bed that’s not really a bed, but looks like a bed, so she could do the other one. When she finished, I looked at them and sure enough, they weren’t what I asked for. I kindly said that I loved them and gave her the money (it’s not like she could reverse it). I then left with my big shades on. I was kind of mad b/c I tried really hard explaining what kind of eyebrows that I wanted.

Below I have provided a visual of what I believe would save many other women from getting such horrible eyebrow waxing jobs. I call it the “Universal eyebrow waxing chart”. Now, instead of spending large amounts of time explaining what kind of eyebrow shape that you want to someone, that really doesn’t know what you’re saying, you can just simply point at the image or say the name.

I normally get either the “dolphin” or the “sexy rainbow”. Unfortunately, today I was given the “boring clone”… It’s not even either. The left brow is longer and isn’t pointy. The Right brow has a point, but seems shorter. Actually, I should probably get my money back.

“It’s not right!” , is what Paris shouted as she was escorted out of the courtroom and back to jail earlier today. Really? It’s not right? So, apparently it’s ok, in her twisted little mind, to disregard what law officials tell you (several times), get a 25 day sentence instead of a 45 day sentence and get released from jail early due to “medical conditons”… going on to spend the remainder of her sentence in her multi-million dollar mansion. I’ve never been so disgusted in someone as much as I have been with her. There are people in jail that have much more serious medical conditons and are not given house arrest. I’ll just say that Shaquanda from Compton, who is diagnosed with cancer, wouldn’t be given that priveledge. To Paris, it’s not fair. Wow. I’m not really surprised, and I don’t feel sorry for her either. I don’t necessarily think that the ladies at the jail should give her hell, but they have every right to. Celebrities, in general, think that they can do whatever they want. Every once and a while, they need to be shown that they are just like everyone else. They take a dump at the end of the day just like you and I…they just happen to have toilets that are made of solid gold with a diamond studded toilet handle. However, for the next couple of days/weeks, Paris’s toilet will look an awful lot like this:

So I was watching the Republican debate last night. I caught bits and piece of the Democratic debate the other day. Do you want my two cents…er, I mean two pennies? I want action. Forget all of the promises and “I believe” statements. They mean nothing to me. I’m not a 19 year old fool. I know what politicians want. They tell the people what they want to hear so that they can get their comfy seat in the White House. That is all. Really, I just want a honest president. Someone that will stand by their word and not say one thing and do another. One that will solve issues instead of create more issues to solve or worsen current issues. Someone that will either fight the Iraq war like it should be fought or bring the troops home. Someone that will “attempt” to solve the illegal immigration problem. In 2008, i’m voting for whoever seems closest to that description. Someone that will give me faith in politicians again.

As it stands right now: I like Romney,he seems like he’s less full of crap than the rest. I honestly don’t care if he’s Mormon or not. Huckabee might even have my vote too for the same reason. Ron Paul seemed to be the only candidate that seems to be honest and not out of touch. I’ve never been a big fan of him until I saw how he handled that debate. Rudy G and McCain have yet to win me over. The rest of them didn’t really “wow” me either.

As for the Democratic side, it’s a crazy mess. That party is split in every direction. I think the only (D) that I can stand is Obama – and I can barely stand him. The rest of them could bribe me with a lifetime supply of Cheez-it’s and I still wounldn’t vote for them. Clinton and Edwards are at the bottom of my list.

I made the awful decision to let my brother barrow my iPod for a week. Especially after I was fully aware of his history of losing things. All I can say is, he “misplaced” his iPod video…twice. Mine was a cute little iPod nano that I treated as if it were a body part of mine. For the past 2 years, everywhere I went – that nano went. In high school, it was the thing that helped me concentrate on tests (and get incredibly high scores). It kept me awake while I waited at the hair salon. It was pretty much like a fine piece of jewelry – I didn’t let it out of my sight. With that being said, it took a great deal of trust and generosity to let him use it while he worked out at the gym. He claimed that he put it in the center compartment of his car one day b/c the battery died. When he checked back later, it was gone. Yeah right… that’s a complete load of crap…

It also held a sentimental meaning as well. See, my dad is pretty much a …well. I’ll just say, he was one of those dads that was never “there” when it came to birthdays,holidays and even my graduation. He was either too busy or was out of town. It’s almost like we’re strangers b/c we just don’t have that father-daughter bond. My mom and him got a divorce when I was 2 so… I guess you can see where i’m getting at. Well, this iPod was really the only “real” birthday present he has ever bought me. Normally he’ll send me a check or a gift card to some random store that i’ve never heard of ( a lot of the time, nothing at all). I know, wonderful dad, right? That iPod was like a “Gee, he actually thought about me” type of present. As pathetic as it sounds, that iPod was very special to me.

Now it’s gone and i’ve been listening to old CD’s for the past week and a half. Might I add, I now realize why CD’s suck and no one ever buys them anymore. You have to keep changing them whenever you’re tired of that band or artist. I hate that. I guess i’m just really spoiled and can only tolerate MP3’s now. I’m going through iPod withdrawals. My brother promised that he’d replace it…. I hope it’s soon

I just realized that we easily waste 45% of our life waiting in a line of some sort. Whether you’re 9 and you’re waiting in line at Water World to slide down the nasty, band-aid infested “Wacky Water Slide” or when you’re at the DMV waiting in line to renew your drivers license. You’re wasting precious time waiting in a long line that moves, if you’re lucky, every 12 minutes.

Actually,it’s not just waiting in line, it’s waiting in general. We waste a big chunk of our lives just simply waiting. You wait in traffic, you wait in the drive thru line at Burger King, you wait at the post office,you wait at the grocery store,you wait for waiters at restaurants… dammit, everywhere you go you have to wait. The other 55% of our life is spent working up to the next time we need to wait again. I bet it’s a lot more than 45%. I threw 45% in there so that it would seem less depressing (b/c we all know how anything bad that is less than half of anything isn’t so bad).

My point is, life = waiting.

Last Thursday, Geraldo was on Good Morning America debating against Glenn Beck over the illegal immigration reform deal. It will pretty much force all 12 million immigrants to pay a $5,000 fine, return to their native country for a year, or until they recieve a visa stamp, and pass a backround check as well. Beck’s argument is that we need to finish building the border fence that we’ve already started building and focus on cutting down on the companies that are illegally hiring these immigrants. You ask, “Why do you say Geraldo is delusional?”, Geraldo’s argument is:

“We have 12 million people who are gainfully employed; the vast majority of them are. I submit to you that these people are a vital part of the American economy. That they are doing jobs that essentially Americans don’t want. Americans are fully employed. To lose these 12 million hard-working people, law-abiding, family people, socially-conservative people in many ways, I think would be a travesty.“

I agree that a large portion of them are indeed doing the jobs that Americans don’t want to do, but i’d never consider all of them to be “law-abiding”. Beck then pointed out that the three illegal aliens that were planning the Fort Dix attacks were not law-abiding. Rivera argued that they came here through JFK airport and this fence would not have stopped them. Really, not all 12 million illegal aliens have the ability to fly here. How else are they getting here? Through the Canadian and Mexican borders, duh. Rivera then went on to pretty much imply that Beck is a “racist” and is “afraid of the brown-skinned ones” for having such a view. Look, i’m half latino and I completely agree with what Glenn had to say. Does that make me a racist too? I want to also go further into detail on why these “law-abiding” immigrants need to be controlled:

- More than 53% of burglaries in California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas are perpetrated by illegal aliens.

-70% of all cars stolen in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California are stolen by illegals.

– More than half of all gang members in Los Angeles are illegal aliens from south of the border.

So tell me that Geraldo isn’t delusional… He must either enjoy disagreeing with conservatives or has no idea what the hell he is talking about.

I’m ok with immigrants coming here and working, I just feel that I have the right, as a citizen, to know who exactly is coming here. This reform deal will not better things, it will only make things more complicated. Not many illegal imm9igrants can afford to leave their job, pull $5,000 out of their pockets and leave the US for a year. They then would have to come back here  and start fresh.  Unfortunately, I see how this is a necassary step toward solving the illegal immigration problem.

Oh, and if you happen to watch the clip, you’ll notice that he states that his father is an illegal alien from Puerto rico. What a moron.

My mom is a pack rat. With that being said,a few years ago she had the clever idea of purchasing a beaten up piano in hopes of fixing it up one day. That day never came. Instead, it sat in a corner of the garage and was used as a storage area for my brother’s car wax and other car washing supplies. Now, this wasn’t just any ordinary piano. This was an ugly one that had missing keys and chips from Tokyo to downtown. Let’s just say, this wasn’t something you’d ever want to be caught dead playing. It apparently was more than 100 years old, unfortunately no antique store would purchase it from us. All of the antique dealers that we contacted told us, in the most polite way, “That crap is crap. You might as well take a crap on it and send us the photograph…might be worth more money than the piano.”… Well, maybe they didn’t exactly put it that way. They pretty much said that it was worthless even though it was very old. It would cost more money to repair it than to buy a brand new one.

We tried throwing it away a few weeks ago prior to pulling it apart,but were unsuccessful . My brother and I hauled it down the driveway for trash day the following day. We woke up the next morning and it was still there. Apparently the garbage men aren’t paid enough to be lifting large pianos into their trucks. Ugh! Slackers… Yesterday we got clever and decided to take the ugly thing apart. It turned out to be less fun than I thought it would be. The idea of taking pictures really didn’t cross my mind until we were finally done. With that being said, it will be hard to really explain it step-by-step. When it got down to breaking each string individually, it became scary. See, much like guitar strings, piano string are very unpredictable when broken. They fly everywhere when you break them, so if you’re in the way of one – you will be bleeding. After about an hour and a half, we had piano parts scattered all over the place. The only thing left in one piece was the back of the piano (the heaviest part). It weighed about a ton, but we somehow figured that the garbage men would have a little sympathy and pick it up this time. Eh. We were wrong. I woke up this morning just in time to see them coming down the street. I peeped through the front window to watch.

First went the first trash can. Then the second. Cool.They threw the bags full of piano keys.Then the bag we stuffed the broken strings in. Awesome.The piano bench was next.Various pieces of wood were then thrown into the garbage truck and finally, yes, finally – the huge piece that we had laying on the ground was then lifted. One guy mumbled something to the other. The other guy made a gesture with his free hand. More mumbling.They then dropped it on the grass, hopped into the truck and drove off to the next set of garbage cans. My smile turned into a frown in a matter of seconds. Why? They knew we went through hell pulling that thing apart, why couldn’t they go the extra mile and stuff it into their dumb truck? Sure, it probably would’ve ended up breaking the truck, but dammit – life is full of taking chances! Now, all we have is the back of a piano… Any takers?

I’ve finally decided to create a more “grown up” blog site so that I can write about stuff that pertains to…well, more “serious” stuff. I made a xanga back in 9th grade. Got tired of that. Started using my myspace blog, but figured it would be best if I left that only for my friends and family (due to the personal stuff that it contains). I needed somewhere to discuss various things, that I happen to bore others with, and WordPress seemed like quite the place to be.I’m using this blog to mainly express my political views and thoughts on various current events. Sure, i’ll write the occasional funny stuff, but I will try really hard to stick to serious stuff.

First of all, I am politically moderate, so what I write here will be bearable for both liberals and conservatives. I will more than likely give a lot of pros and cons rather than write stuff like ” Liberals are scum!” or “Those damn redneck conservatives!”. I basically woke up one day and smelled the coffee. It doesn’t matter which side of the table you are on, you’re just as close to the middle as the person sitting opposite from you. If you are in the middle, you have room for compromise and an open-minded view. You are able to see both sides of an issue and make your own decision, not the decision that everyone else on your side decides to make. The farther you are from the middle, the narrower your understanding for the other side will become.

I’m a young, politically active college student that is full of opinions. I’ll share them here because I want to, not because I want to force my views on someone else. My only goal is to build as much traffic to this blog as possible. My myspace blog gets a lot of traffic, and I have no idea why.

Unfortunately, I feel like i’m talking to a wall right now… so I think i’ll stop now.
